What’s In Season: August
August means lackadaisical, warm days, hopefully many of which are spent on vacation. Or at least pretending like you’re on vacation.
August is hot, and you want cold brew most of the time. Totally understandable. It’s also the time of late summer berry pies (topped with ice cream perhaps?) and long evenings with a spread of good food and a glass of good wine. It’s the time of bike rides that end in picnics.
For me, August has always been about picking berries. I was lucky enough to grow up with blackberry bushes upon blackberry bushes surrounding my house, and late summer was meant for purple stained fingers and scratched up legs leftover from foraging adventures.
Whatever August means to you, here’s a guide to some of the wonderful seasonal foods that you have at your disposal this month.

What’s In Season is a monthly roundup of… wait for it… what’s in season. Now granted, doing a list of what’s in season is a little hard – I don’t have the exact GPS coordinates of every single reader. But I am going to base this off of my own experience and what I’m currently buying and eating, so we’re talking Northern Hemisphere, which accounts for a lot of you readers. You may not find all of the things at the in season list at your local market, but at least it will give you a good idea of what would be good to put on your plate.
