Since writing The Culinary Cyclist I have been blown away by all of the positive response. Who knew people would be so excited about food and bikes? Well, I knew people liked that combination, but I didn’t realize that they liked it this much.
Rewind back to earlier this year when I went to Lisbon for a long weekend. Coffee, pastel de nata and sun; Lisbon is a magical place. An urban textile woven together by old buildings, colorful tiles, winding narrow streets and a hint of saltwater in the air.
I stayed at an Airbnb apartment, which had the most amazing breakfast nook with a window overlooking the plants and trees in the back courtyard. Since then the owner, Joana, and I have stayed in touch. When The Culinary Cyclist came out a few months later, Joana was so excited about it that she offered to see if some shops in Lisbon would want to carry the book.
And she pulled through. So much so that on December 14th and 15th there will be two Culinary Cyclist events in Lisbon at shops that now carry the book. Which means I get to hang out in Lisbon for a weekend talking about food and bikes. I feel very lucky.
So, let’s get down to the important details:
On Saturday December 14 I will be doing a reading and Q&A at Palavra de Viajante (which in Portuguese basically means “Word Traveler”) and on December 15, I’ll do a reading and we’ll have some late morning goodies (made by yours truly) at Velocité Cafe, a coffee and bike shop.
So if you’re in Lisbon, or know someone that is, come and take part! Ride your bike of course.
Now I am off to work on my Portuguese.
